The State of Hawaii, Department of Health, and indoor and Radiological Health Branch (IRH) oversees all x-ray equipment, registration, and licensing.
Radiation facilities must ensure that portable x-ray services are provided by properly licensed entities before services are rendered. Here’s the application for the Radiation Service License.
There is a license to acquire, install, use, and manage x-ray equipment in the state of Hawaii. Here is the application for a Radiation Facility License. There is also a form for making amendments to existing licenses.
The state follows the federal code Part 1020, Radiation-Emitting Electronic Systems.
Types of x-ray equipment are defined as follows:
(1) Mobile x-ray equipment means equipment mounted on a permanent base with wheels or casters for moving while assembled
(2) Portable x-ray equipment means x-ray equipment designed to be hand-carried
