Alaska has not passed legislation that governs training regulations for x-ray equipment. However, they have specified some equipment rules that also pertain to mobile devices:
Regulations for Portable X-ray Equipment
Regulations for a mobile x-ray include (but are not limited to):
- Must use a diagnostic-type protective x-ray tube housing
- Mobile equipment must define the useful beam with a cone, diaphragm, or adjustable collimator capable of restricting the beam to an area of interest
- X-ray must be equipped with light localizers and adjustable collimators
- Aluminum equivalent of the total filtration in the beam may not be less than .5 mm.
- Device must automatically terminate exposure after a certain time
- The exposure switch must be a dead-man type switch and arranged in a way that the operator can stand at least 6 feet away
It should also be noted that if a mobile x-ray is used in the same location for more than 30 days, it's considered a fixed installation subject to further shielding requirements specified in 7 AAC 18.430.
For a full list of x-ray equipment regulations, here is the Alaska Administrative Code, with the corresponding section: 7 AK Admin Code 7 AAC 18.450.
